I love technology…but not as much as you, you see…but I still love technology…always and forever…(name that movie!).
So let’s talk technology, “Turkey Technology”

There is some awesome technology out there that I would LOVE to get my little hands on…here are some things you might want to pick up, even before Thanksgiving, because how cool is this?

What is it? It is a WiFi touchscreen video phone that doesn’t require you to have a computer to use!

How perfect would this be for Grandma and Grandpa who don’t like to use the computer?

Or on Thanksgiving, when you want to bring the camera in the kitchen with you to show your mom what your gravy looks like, so she can tell you what you did wrong, and how to fix it? (I’m telling you that would come in handy so much in my house!) You could bring it into your kids bedroom as they are getting into bed and let Daddy read them a story when he’s away, or Grandma can sing them a song as they get tucked in. It’s a little pricey, but really cool right?

Asus Videophone Touch ($299.99)/ Skype Video Calling (FREE)

Want to have some adult talk during the long family car ride to Grandma’s?

We are not going to Grandma’s for Thanksgiving this year, but we make several trips a year to see both of them, one lives 5 hours away and the other lives 10. You can bet with 3 little kids that we have a lot of Dora playing on the DVD players, and as much as I enjoy a good suspenseful Swiper moment, sometimes I wish I didn’t have to hear it and instead have a relaxing conversation with my husband.

Griffin Technology’s Volume-Limiting Headphones for kids ($40).

Myphones are super cute (or awesome if you are a boy), are safe for kids sensitive ears and are customizable to fit your childs style. (Plus it keeps the movie theme songs in their heads and not yours, so you will not be humming, “I’m the map, I’m the map, I’m the map, I’m the map, I’M THE MAP!”). I’ve got to snag me some of these!

Whip cream lover? Me too.
My favorite is fresh made, but the problem is that it doesn’t save.
Unless you have one of these beautiful pieces of art.

Williams Sonoma Whipper ($100)

I know I can’t afford one as of right now but imagine the whippiness possibilities! Add clouds of perfect natural whipped cream to your pumpkin pie (or your daily hot chocolate, am I the only one?) with this essential gadget, but don’t worry about leftovers. This dispenser will keep them fresh for 10 days in the refrigerator. (That’s 10 days!!! In the bowl it doesn’t last 10 minutes! This is pure genious!).

And when you’re resting off the Post-Turkey Food Coma…

Netflix Roku Digital Video Player ($99)

This little gadget is super cool! You can watch Netflix instantly on your TV rather than your computer. You don’t need any extra subscriptions or anything else, you just buy the box and as long as you have a wireless connection, you can watch all your Netflix movies, even in HD! We could have some fun with this!

Disclosure: I was not compensated in any way for talking about these products.

Welcome to Toot Toot Tuesday!
Today we will be making some basic tile coasters, one of my favorite gifts to make, especially for grandmas!
First you take your tiles-these are the 4×4 variety that you can get at Home Depot for less than 20 cents a piece. Bargain!!!Then you will need to gather the rest of your supplies…
-Mod Podge
-Foam Brush
-Clear Spray Paint
-Scrapbook Paper
-Felt
-Not pictured: Hot glue gun-or other strong adhesive, Scissors
-Optional: Paint, paper trimmer, punches, stickers etc…
First you will cut your paper to the desired size and using mod podge, adhere it to the tile.
Then using the mod podge apply a thin layer over the top, making sure to smooth the paper as you go, so you don’t have wrinkles.
Layer some more paper or stickers if desired following the above two steps, making sure that the paper is just how you want it and stuck on there good! Next take your tiles outside or in your garage or other well ventilated area and spray with the clear spray to seal in your little works of art. Allow to dry completely and do another coat if desired.
Next step is to make the tiles soft on the bottom. To do this, you just need a square of felt and a hot glue gun.
Put the glue on the bottom of the tile.I found the easiest way to get the felt completely covering the bottom is to glue the tile to the felt before I cut it, also it helps to keep an assembly line going with the hot glue gun-glue, stick, glue, stick, glue, stick….
Then you just take your scissors and cut around the tiles. Voila! Your finished tile coaster!
I’ve been making these for awhile now, and my kids make them too. I don’t just use them for coasters-My little harvest ones are going on my little entry table with other Fall decorations….Christopher painted this one that I have on my stove for a spoon rest…I love it! (They are not heat resistant, there is probably a spray to make them that way, but if you try to use these for hot trivets , it will just melt that spray paint!)
Bekah painted these last year, and I want to put them on the wall as a back splash, but we’re renting, and I want to keep them, so they are just resting against the wall in the kitchen right below where I would have hung them. These ones I painted for my sisters cupcake kitchen awhile back, I think she attached some ribbon and hung them on the wall.

And these ones I made for my mother in law last year with the kids’ “help.” If you are going to use photos for coasters, I suggest printing them on regular printing paper rather than photo paper, it’s just easier to get it on there, and then you don’t have to ruin a photo print. There you have it, nothing new, nothing too fancy, but a great gift from you or even that kids can help make, that someone will actually really like receiving!

EiGhT

EiGhT years ago today, I married my best friend…

…and that is the corniest thing I ever did write.
And yet, if it wasn’t so darn true, I would erase it immediately and gag a little bit for the thought of saying something so cliche’ and utterly gushy.
Chad still makes me smile, laugh, tingly and all together too happy.

I think that after 8 years of wedded bliss,
  • if you still think your spouse is the best looking person to ever walk the planet earth,
  • if you still call each other for no other reason than to hear their voice and remind them how much you love them,
  • if you never fight, and rarely even get annoyed with them,
  • if you still want to spend time with them, over your fabulous and funny friends any day of the week,
  • if you still get all weak in the knees after one kiss from them,
  • if you count down the minutes until they get home from wherever they are at the moment,
  • if you still laugh at their jokes and melt at their singing,
  • and if you are still as much in love as the day you got married, but a whole bunch more….
Then I am certain that it is the forever kind of love, the kind of love in the movies, the kind of love in vampire falls in love with mortal books, the kind of love that every little girl (and romantic little boys) dreams about finding.

And now that is the corniest (yet truest) thing I have ever written!
I love you Chaddy poo punkin bum!
Forever…and ever.

This weekend I surprised Chad with a night at our favorite place out here ‘The Running Y’ just him and me.
I left Christopher at his friend Connor’s house and Bekah and Topher at our friends the Appah’s. A big thank you and hugs to you guys for letting Chad and I have the whole night to ourselves, and letting us sleep in! 🙂

The next night we brought the kids up to stay with us and took them ice skating.
Chad hadn’t been on skates in at least 15 years, and I think it’s been about that long for me too.
So our kids have NEVER been on skates.
Taking 3 little beginners out on the ice, may seem a little crazy.
And it was.
Porter liked getting his skates on…
…for about a minute.
Then he just got mad. Then he got a little bit more mad.
Bekah was beyond thrilled to finally do “what she always wanted to do” and Topher was just there for the ride.2-3 times around the rink with mom and dad taking turns ‘helping’ Porter skate.
He was absolutely finished.
He wanted those skates off right that second.
Christopher was not much better.
He didn’t complain as much-but he just let you push him around.
It was like shoveling a sidewalk…only harder…and wigglier.
I didn’t get a good picture of either of the boys skating, because when they were skating, Chad and I were each holding…and pushing one of them.
I did get this one though of him holding the wall, very upset that Chad and I were both taking a break from pushing him around the rink, holding onto our backs like the very old people that we were feeling like.
Dang that kid has some long eyelashes, and big eyes.
One more time around the rink?
With eyes like those, you can get just about anything you want!
Then there was Miss Bekah.
I thought for sure she would be a freak show out there on the ice.
Clinging to the wall for dear life.
Sobbing uncontrollably the first time she fell on her tooshie.
Did she ever prove me wrong!
She held onto the wall for about half of the first time around, held my hand for the rest of that time and then she was off.
And when she did fall-this was her face.
Not exactly the tears and snot I was expecting.
She said she learned on Blues Clues Musical, that when you fall you just need to get back up.Thank you Blue!
She really wants to take lessons now, and says she loves it more than ballet.
I believe it.
She and I stayed and skated for at least 2 hours after Chad left with the boys.
And she was all smiles the whole time.
I had to get one picture of my honey on skates too-he is a natural at everything he does, he was speeding around the rink even when he did have a boy attached to him.

Then there was me, I stayed right next to Bekah, not because she needed my help, but because I was so slow and unbalanced, I probably would have fallen on my face if I would have tried to pick up the pace at all.
